Robert “Bob” S. Basham

Robert (Bob) Basham, 73, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018.  Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday April 16, 2018 in the Marty Leonard Chapel at The Lena Pope Home, 3131 Sanguinet St., Ft. Worth, TX 76107. His family asks that everyone wear the color blue as a tribute to Bob. There will be a reception after the service at the Dawson Residence, 1931 5th Ave., Ft. Worth, TX 76110.

Bob Basham – Crappie King, lake lover, veteran, baseball fan and athlete, father, companion, and the most loyal friend anyone could ask for. was born December 6, 1944 in Ft. Worth, TX. He graduated from Azle High School and then went on to play baseball at Cisco Junior College. Bob served in the United States Army for four years. Bob spent 26 years with Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet as a comptroller. He loved the business and the relationships he built and maintained up until the time of his passing.

Bob was a man who knew what he liked and knew what he didn’t like, and his opinions seldom changed either way.  His opinions on what he didn’t like really stood the test of time and he was loyal to them.  He hated waiting too long for food, dirty refrigerators, staying up past 8:30 p.m. trucks older than six months of age, missing his afternoon nap, and black pens.  Bob liked Sweet’N’Low, homemade ice cream (that he made himself), peach preserves, baseball, fishing, Ranger boats, his kids, Ali and Beau, his longtime girlfriend Marcia, family, friends, chatting about the car business, Lake Fork, Lake Bridgeport, and the color blue.

Bob was loved by many because he was truly interested in people and was a great listener. If you’re a waitress in Wise County, Bob probably knew all about your kids and family even if you only told him once. Some things you might wish Bob would forget, but he never did and enjoyed giving you a tough time about it.  Bob was the kind of man who didn’t want any credit for his charitable deeds. He helped so many, never expecting or wanting attention or praise for any of it. That was just the Bob way. The strong outpouring of love in his final days is a testament to how he lived his life. He showed his love with actions, not words. He had the same friends for decades, and I know all of us will struggle with a huge piece of our lives missing. Bob Basham will be greatly missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Roberta and Ray Bailey; father Roland Basham; brother, Bill Basham.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Allison Basham; son, Beau Basham; long-time girlfriend, Marcia Hendrix and her son Mark Hendrix; brother-in-law and sister, Marvin and Linda Lueck; brother, Johnny Basham; and lots of family and friends.
