Albert P. “Al” Oglesby Jr.

Granbury — Albert P. “Al” Oglesby Jr. passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, in Austin.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, in the Wiley Funeral Homer Chapel.
Interment: Holly Hills Memorial Park
Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
Al was born April 4, 1937, in Big Spring, but grew up in Forsan. He graduated from Forsan High School and received his Bachelor’s and Master of Science degrees from North Texas State University (NTSU), where he was on full scholarship with the basketball and track team for four years.
At NTSU, he met his future bride to be, Shirley Ann Leonard. They were married June 28, 1958, in Dallas and moved to Monterey, Calif., and lived in Carmel. There, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord from 1960 to 1962. Upon completion of his service, he and Shirley returned to Odessa where they raised two wonderful children, Stefanie and Steven “Ty.”
In Odessa, Al began his teaching and coaching career at Ector High School. At Ector, in 1972, he produced a State Championship basketball team and was chosen Coach of the Year in Texas. He also taught and coached at Permian and Odessa High Schools and served as assistant principal at Ector Junior High School. Al completed his career as a Personnel Recruiting Specialist for ECISD and he and his wife Shirley chose to retire to Pecan Plantation Country Club, Granbury, in 1993. Al was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury and the Pinnacle Golf Group in Pecan Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Leonard Oglesby.
Survivors: Daughter, Stefanie Schiesser and her husband, Tom, of Austin; son, Steven Tyson “Ty” Oglesby and his wife, Cathy, of Euless; grandchildren, Avery and Benjamin Schiesser and Dylan Sommerfeld.
