Alexander Neil McLeod was born in Pittsburgh, Penn. on July 15, 1940. Known as “Sandy”, by those who knew him best, he moved to Granbury over 25 years ago and fell in love with the town and people.
He was a loving and devoted grandfather to the six people he cherished more than anything else…his grandchildren: Zachary, Jonathan, Megan, Lexy, Audrey and Sammy. He spent countless hours traveling to every event that he was able to attend. Whether it was driving hours across Texas or days across the country, he made every effort to be there for his kids. They will miss him greatly but will have very fond memories of the special time they spent together.
When not spending time with his grandchildren, Sandy could be seen anywhere there was music to be played and heard. “Big Sandy” loved music and enjoyed playing and singing with his close friends in the Granbury Gospel Quartet. The four of them made beautiful music together and often gave their time at benefit concerts for others. Sandy lived his life to make sure others were taken care of, and music was the tool he most often counted on. He was always quick with a smile when he met you and also the first to lend a hand when one was needed.
Sandy worked most of his life on nuclear power plants, including the one that brought him to Granbury years ago. He attended college in his home town of Pittsburgh, Penn., and was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Despite living in Texas for many years, his love for his Pittsburgh sports teams never wavered. If you ever visited his house you were sure to see the Terrible Towel hanging on the television set.
Sandy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Reen McLeod, brother, Jack McLeod, and sister, Bonnie Oliver.
Survivors: Children and spouses, Vicki McLeod and Dave Knowles of Culpeper, Va., Jeff McLeod of Folsom, Calif., Jodi Nguyen of Folsom, Calif., Lisa and Rob Roth of Texas and Ernie Puryear of Thailand; six grandchildren; and many many friends.
