Barbara Elaine McCollum Condra

BARBARA ELAINE McCOLLUM CONDRA

MAY 21, 1942 ~ FEBRUARY 1, 2021

Fort Worth, Texas

Barbara Elaine McCollum graced her family and this world with her birth on May 21, 1942.  She was born in Manitou, Oklahoma the ninth child welcomed by her loving parents Lela Pearl Smith McCollum and George McCollum, and her eight siblings. She became a big sister two years later when her baby sister Pat was born the tenth and final child rounding the total family member count to one dozen.

She grew up in Fredrick, Ok. where she learned many life skills from her amazing mother such as the value of hard work, how to care for your family and keep a home. She inherited many of her mother’s talents becoming a gifted gardener, a talented seamstress and an amazing cook. The greatest gift her mother gave her was introducing her to Jesus. Those seeds developed and grew into a deep personal relationship with the love of God that carried her through the many challenges she faced in her life. Her sweet daddy who was employed by the Frisco Railroad, instilled in her character and a strong work ethic through his dedication to provide and care for his large family.

Early on she made all her own clothes. She helped pick cotton. She worked at the Bumpas Drugstore in Fredrick as soon as she was old enough. This is where she met her future husband Elden Wayne Condra. Stories were told of milkshakes and french fry dates between the two.

On April 20, 1957 just shy of being 15 years old, Barbara wed her beloved Elden and they began their 57 year marriage. Early on Elden joined the USAF. The young couple were stationed in Columbus Ohio. On December 4, 1959 They welcomed their first born son Dennis Wayne. In 1963 they moved to Texas where they put their roots down and Elden began his aviation career as a civilian. Their daughter Delisa Michelle was born August 19, 1964. They bought their first home in Fort Worth, TX  in 1965.  Daughter Danielle Renee joined the family May 8, 1970. Their family was completed on June 21, 1973 when son Darren Kyle was born.

Barbara was an excellent homemaker. She also worked a few jobs out side of the home. Her employment included Mrs. Baird’s Bakery, Mayflower Moving Co, Tandy Electronics and lastly General Dynamics (Lockheed).  She retired from Lockheed in the early 90’s with pride having been part of making the mighty F-16 aircraft and grateful to have met her best friend Waynetta Washington there.

Her legacy is one of a gigantic heart of love and extravagant generosity. One who always opened her heart, home and purse to the needy. A Meals on Wheels volunteer. A lover of babies, nature, Christmas, Elvis Presley, John Wayne  and the color purple. Her love of adventure and travel was contagious. A gifted crafter and floral arranger. A collector of antiques. She nicknamed her beloved flowers and rocks “kissers”.  Her pride and joy are her six grandsons and three great granddaughters.  Each and every one of them testify to her being the most fun grandma ever and will cherish her hilarious sayings, silly faces, best back/foot rubs and all the memories forever.

She was an intercessor- a sleep talker and prayer warrior. This was part of a prayer she prayed/sang in her sleep. A prayer that she is still praying and singing over us as she now stands with the great cloud of witnesses in heaven looking down and cheering us on as we finish our races!

“Give us peace Lord God, Your sweet peace.. that we can spend time with You today, that we can pray, and we can be thankful, and we can be so happy.. and when you see in your own eyes.. oh my Jesus.. He’s so good to me.. Jesus loves me oh yes He does”.

On February 1, 2021 Barbara peacefully transferred from her home on earth into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to her eternal HOME in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lela and George McCollum, her husband Elden Condra her brothers Charlie, Marvin, Jim, and Raymond McCollum, her sisters Hazel McCollum Sanders, Ruth McCollum McArdle and Linda McCollum Ellis.
