Barbara Joyce Sloan, known by many as Aunt B, transitioned to her eternal home of heaven on Friday, December 10, 2021. Aunt B was 75 and lived in Glen Rose, Texas since 2006.
She was born November 7, 1946, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Cecil Frank Baker and Videll Willie Beck.
Aunt B attended Ardmore High School and continued her education at Northeastern State University in Miami, Oklahoma. She graduated from Northeastern in 1965 with a certificate in Business Law.
In 1967 she moved to Monahans, Texas and lived there for 39 years until she moved to Glen Rose, Texas in 2006. While in Monahans she owned several businesses as well as serving in the insurance and bookkeeping industries. Aunt B belonged to the Presbyterian Church in Monahans where she was saved and baptized. She married LE Sloan on January 31, 1989.
She served many people in Glen Rose and Granbury. She was a longtime team member of Papa’s Pantry, greeted many visitors over the years volunteering at the Somervell County Museum, worked with Habitat for Humanity in Granbury, served summer lunches for kids in Granbury, and ministered in many capacities at her church, First Presbyterian Church of Granbury.
Aunt B was an incredible artist, an avid reader, and a season pass holder of the Granbury Opera House. She loved to travel and spend time with her family here in Glen Rose as well as her extended families of Big Cup, Texas Treasures, Sugar Biscuits, Interbank, Just Around the Corner, Rockin Hair Salon, Starbucks of Granbury and many, many more!!
She is survived by her nieces Sharon Williams, Patty Snodgrass and nephew, Kelley Snodgrass all of Glen Rose, a brother, Richard Baker of Wichita Falls, Texas and her best friend, Pat Hunt of Cresson, Texas. Also a step son, Lee Sloan and wife Karen of Brenham, Texas. Granddaughters Kirsha Sloan and family and Dorian and Trey Bratton and family of Georgetown, Texas. In addition, she is survived by great nieces and nephews Sloan and Miguel Ibarra, Kas and Ellerie Snodgrass, Dakotah Williams, Caleb and Ashlie Williams, Justin and Gabby Baker. Dixie Snodgrass, Sutten Snodgrass and Olivia Baker are great, great nieces. Furthermore, she is survived by ALL her adopted nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to her as Aunt B.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, LE Sloan, her parents and a brother.
A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 11am at Squaw Creek Cemetery.
