Lipan High School – Class of 1944
Beauton was born on Sept. 27, 1927 five miles east of Lipan in Hood County, to Estell Lafett (Jack) and Madge Leona Stacy Ford. She was descended from Ford, Stacy, and Draper families of Lipan. She grew up in the Lipan area and attended Bethel School from 1st through 4th grades; she transferred to Lipan School in 5th grade. Beauton was active in home economics and was valedictorian of the graduating class of 1944.
Mary Sublett Tate shares this story about Beauton’s time in college: She lasted only a week at Tarleton. She and I had a room at the home of Mrs. Sam Russell. She cried every night and every morning because she missed “some ole boy” named Tipton. At first, I tried to reason with her, but she would cry louder! By Friday, l was saying I’ll help you pack. God bless you; as you would say, I’ll never forget that story!
She married Clarence Verne Tipton on October 17, 1945 in Mineral Wells, Texas. Verne and Beauton engaged in farming and ranching until their retirement. They were owners of Chicken City Egg Farm for many years. They enjoyed traveling in their RV and visited all fifty states and five Canadian provinces.
Beauton served as a sponsor of 4-H and was active in PTA. She was a member of the Lipan Chieftain and Squaw Club and the Lipan Extension Homemakers. She was also State FHA Mother when daughter Joyce served as Texas FHA President. Beauton and Verne enjoyed many seasons on Lake Granbury entertaining their family and friends, creating many fun family memories.
She served on both Evergreen Cemetery committee and Bishop Cemetery committee. Beauton was a devout member of the Lipan Church of Christ.
