GRANBURY — Bee William Walker, 95, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016.
Graveside services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Alleene Cemetery, Alleene AR. The family sends A Special Thank you to all his Visiting Angels and hospice caregivers.
Bee was born May 20, 1920 in Alleene, AR to Jonie and Luberta Walker. Bee met the love of his life, Gladys Lansdell in that rural community where both families lived; they married December 23, 1939. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Bee was assigned to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Sangamon and served as Fireman First Class in the South Pacific. After several Japanese Kamikaze attempts, a disabling hit occurred off Okinawa. He was reassigned to the Midway. After the war ended and seeking employment, he traveled with his young family from Washington state to Galveston. Finally settling in west Texas where he worked for Cabot Carbon. After retiring, he returned home to Arkansas. Bee received his Cherokee name of Strong Warrior, which was proven throughout his life. He and Gladys moved to Granbury where she preceded him in death after 75 years of marriage. Other family members preceding him in death are his parents, siblings Odie, E.D., Inez, Estelle, Cleve James and his grandchildren Shannon and Van Dixon.
Survivors: daughters Patricia (Jack) Beverly, Mary Ellen (Gary) Walker, Joyce (Wally) Brown; grandchildren David (Susan) Wilson, Jim (Joyce) Wilson, Wendy (Rick) Werner, Shel (Doug) Pennington, Delana (Stefan) Smith; 9 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
