Betty Jane Daugherty, age 86, formerly of Brady, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 in Kyle. She was born January 1, 1932 in Brady to Buster and Willie Fisher.
She married Ben Daugherty on Easter Sunday, 1951 at the Northside Baptist Church in Brady and was a lifelong resident of Brady.
Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed the quilting club and the travels and activities of the Triple S Club, She was a member of the Hillbilly Hits Club since its beginning and enjoyed participating in the travels, activities, events and volunteering at the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum.
She worked at McShan’s Grocery for 40+years as a checker and later as office manager. She enjoyed visiting and trading recipes with the customers and always greeted them with a smile. She was affectionately known as “Betty Boop.”
Betty is survived by two sons. Donny Daugherty and wife, Cindy, of Seguin; Joe Daugherty and wife, Carla, of Granbury; 4 grandchildren: Dawn Risinger and Suzanne Daugherty of Seguin; Amanda Daugherty Leeman and husband, Paul, of Katy; Jason Daugherty and wife, Julieta, of Mansfield. Great grandchildren: Jeremy Risinger and fiance, Jenalee, of San Antonio; Taylor Risinger, Devon Daugherty and Christian Villalon of Seguin; Cayden and Noah Daugherty of Mansfield; Donya Jade Leeman of Katy. Great – great grandchildren: Jesse and Jaxon Daugherty of Seguin. One sister, Marvel Gorelick and husband, Robert, of Kyle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buster and Willie Fisher, husband Ben Daugherty, infant son, Robert, brother; Robert Fisher and infant great – great granddaughter, Peyton.
Services for Betty will be held Sunday, July 29 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church in Brady. Family will receive friends from 1-2 pm at the church. She will Lie in State: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Saturday, July 28, 2018, Heritage Funeral Home, Brady, Texas. Tracy Pitcox will be officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jason Daugherty, Paul Leeman, Jeremy and Taylor Risinger, Christian Villalon and Robert Gorelick. Honorary pallbearers are Cayden, Jesse, Noah and Jaxon Daugherty.
