Betty Joy Poage passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 5th after a brief illness. She was born in Big Spring, TX on June 27, 1947 to J D and Joyce Poage.
The family soon moved to a ranch outside Rankin, TX before settling in Big Lake, TX where Betty lived until graduating from Reagan County High School. She then attended and graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX with a Masters Degree.
She taught school in El Paso, worked in Ruidoso, NM, and later went to work for IBM in Lubbock and Albuquerque, NM. She then moved to North Carolina where she worked for SDM and Bell South. In 2002, she decided to come back to Texas to be closer to family. She became a financial advisor working for Edward Jones and then Ameriprise, where she retired in 2017.
Betty was a strong, kind, independent woman who never met a stranger. She loved to snow ski, bike ride and spend time with family and friends. She was classy, full of life and her cup was always half full. She was a member of Junior League, AAUW, Network for Enterprising Women, a former Ambassador for the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, and a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth and the Legacy Sunday School Class.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, J D Poage. She is survived by her mother Joyce Poage, her sister Billie Farr and husband Phil, nephews Jeff Farr and wife Stephanie and Zack Farr and wife Danielle, and their children – Libby, Cade, Avery, Sawyer and Audrey. She is also survived by a group of very close cousins and friends.
Please join us in celebrating her life Friday, February 8th at First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth at 1:00PM. Burial will be on Sunday at Glenrest Cemetary in Big Lake, TX at 2:00PM.
