GRANBURY — On Saturday, March 12, 2016, Bettye Jene Hackney went to be with her Lord and Savior, as promised in John 3:16 (her favorite scripture).
Funeral: 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
Entombment: Will follow in the family mausoleum in Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
Visitation: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Joseph House, Special Care Facility, Box 150554, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
Bettye was born to William and Edna Lindley on Nov. 6, 1927, in Marked Tree, Ark. She married Homer M. Zeagler, a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War, in 1947 and during 25 years together they raised two daughters, Glenda Mayce and Karyl Ann “Katy.”
In 1973, Bettye and James A. Hackney of the Fort Worth Police Department began a 31-year marriage. Bettye was a store detective for the downtown Fort Worth Stripling’s Department Store for 11 years and was later a guard and dental technician for the Federal Bureau of Corrections, retiring after 17 years in 1989. Her Eastern Star membership, beginning in Arkansas in 1951, was very meaningful to her. She loved nature, especially flowers and birds. In later years, Bettye enjoyed traveling with Katy and Tony.
Bettye was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Glenda McCormick; her husbands, Mayce Zeagler and Jim Hackney; her parents; and two brothers, William Jr. and Robert Lindley.
Survivors: Her daughter, Katy Scott and husband, Tony; her grandson, David H. Davis Jr.; great-grandson, David H. Davis III; stepsons, Mike and Danny Hackney and their families. Bettye will be greatly missed, leaving emptiness in the hearts of family and friends. Lifelong friends include Myrtis Byrd and Gerry Cozby of North Richland Hills and Dianne Boatner, Margo Norstrud and Wanda Nail.
