GRANBURY — Bill Bly, 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2013, after a short illness.
Funeral:10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at Roller-Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville, Ark. Burial: Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville.
Bill was born on Apr. 20, 1925, in Jamestown, Ark., to Zack and Rena Bly. He was a child of the Great Depression, and worked for the CCC as a teenager, building roads into Mount Magazine State Park. He later joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific until the end of World War II. He married the love of his life, Edythe, in 1948, and they reared five children together. The had been married 62 years when she died in 2010. Bill was also preceded in death by his son, Michael.
Bill was a smart man and a hard worker, working two jobs most of his life to support his family. He loved his family, his friends and his life. Even when facing adversity, he was able to enjoy the little things in life. The week before he died, he was teaching his son-in-law, Alden, how to play San Antonio Rose on the fiddle. He will be sorely missed.
Survivors: Son, Zack of San Antonio; daughter, Billie and husband, Alden, of Granbury; son, Luke and wife, Pat, of Port Lavaca; daughter, Jackie and husband, Doug, of Dallas; grandchildren, Anna Short, Jonny and Jeremy Moore, Sharon Sparks, Tammy Cook, Chris Bly; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; brothers, Tom and Jim Bly, both of Heber Springs, Ark.; sisters, Barbara Pharis of Little Rock, Lavada Casey of Clarksville, Ark.
