GRANBURY — Bob Bowles, 81, a loving husband, father and grandfather, died Friday, May 23, 2014, peacefully at home.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial: Acton Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Bob was born Nov. 16, 1932, in Cabool, Mo., to Leonard and Eva Bowles. He attended high school in Vandalia, Ill. and college in Fulton, Mo. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 where he served a tour of duty in Korea and two separate tours of duty in Viet Nam as a helicopter and airplane pilot. He received numerous distinguished medals and retired in 1974 as a Lt. Colonel. Bob then went on to work for several different state agencies in Austin, Texas and retired after 20 years. He loved to travel and most of all he enjoyed playing golf.
Preceding him in death were his father, Leonard Bowles, mother, Eva Bowles, first wife and mother of his children, Dodie Bowles, and a grandson, J.J. Huddleston.
Survivors: Wife of 5 years, Nellie Bowles; daughters, Lisa Robertson and husband, Ricky, of DeCordova, Karen George and husband, David, of Austin, Julie Morgan of Burleson and her children, Cole and Keely; sister, Kay Hammond and husband, Chuck, of Mt. Vernon, Ill.
