Cassie Rechelle Sumner passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 5, at her home in Azle, Texas after battling breast cancer for several years.

Cassie was born July 15, 1974 in Durant, Oklahoma to Charles and Ruth Horton. She graduated from The Colony High School in 1992. She married Troy on September 22, 2013. Cassie’s children, Taryn and Andrew, were adopted by Troy on September 23, 2015. Her children remember her as a kind, gentle, patient, strong, and faith-driven mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Cassie requested that donations be made to the youth groups at Smithfield United Methodist Church, 6701 Smithfield Rd., North Richland Hills, TX 76182 or Metrocrest Presbyterian Church, 1265 E. Hebron Pkwy, Carrolton, TX 75010 for the benefit of youth missions.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Ruby Horton and uncle, David Horton.

Cassie is survived by her parents, Charles and Ruth Horton; husband, Troy Sumner; children, Taryn, Andrew, and Micah; granddaughter, Lucy; brother, Ryan Horton and family; along with nieces and nephews, Brooks, Haylee, Kaytlyn, and Cody.

One of Cassie’s favorite quotes was:

“I don’t know how my story will end, but nowhere in my text will it ever read… I gave up.”

I worked with Cassie at the Bean and we very quickly became friends. I'm very glad she got to meet and fall in love with Troy,they were great together.I wish I had made a better effort to see her these past months but she knew I loved her.

We are so sad to hear about Cassie's passing, but know that with everything she did, she gave 110% and fought the entire time. Cassie was a great girl and having grown up with her in middle school and high school, playing softball and our nights at Nicks..she will be extremely missed by all those who knew her.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I only met her twice, but she was always smiling and down to Earth. I am glad I got the chance to know her, just a little.

Cassie was a special kind of crazy! I loved working with her and thought she was a wonderful person and mother. I can't imagine having such a bright star taken away at such a young age. My heart aches for Troy and her kids as well as the extended family, and many prayers go out to them all.

I had so much fun with Cassie during junior high and high school. She was the one that taught me not to give up. She will be truly missed .

Way too many memories to pick out just one. Will always remember your smile. You were an amazing friend.

My heartfelt sympathies to the family. She touched so many of us. I will miss her loving spirit so very much. God bless.

May God Bless the family during your time of grief. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. I did not know Cassie personally, but I know her struggle and fight. I know she is with each of you. She will always be with you, watching over you. Please make her proud and carry on her legacy.

I am so grateful for the Atonement and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Though this is a painful time for many, this seperstion is temporary and a joyful reunion awaits.

I remember how excited I, Kim, was on the day you married my brother. Now I officially had two people to call my sister that I have always wanted to have since I was a kid. I promised you that even though I will never take your place in Andrew and Taryn's life that I will make sure nothing ever happens to them and I would treat them like my own children. We love you, we will miss you and you will always have a place in our hearts forever. Love you Sis!

Cassie was one of my best friends and she will be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers to her family and friends. I am blessed to have known since high school and have always enjoyed seeing her and catching when ever I went back home to visit.
