Charles was born on March 16, 1942 in Joshua, Texas. He owned and operated Prater Painting. He enjoyed bingo and fishing. He was a good sport and a ladies man. He was a member of Triple Cross Cowboy Church. He loved his girls and his grandkids. He married Sarah Gaye Conley on September 25, 1999 in Granbury, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Charles Prater, Jr, and brothers: Joseph Prater and Sammy Prater.
Charles is survived by his wife: Sarah Prater, children: Sherry Hidalgo and husband Casey, Tonya Chambers and husband Bryan, Lucretia Barron, Connie Cullor, and Stephanie Chasteen, grandchildren: Casey Hidalgo, Jr., Kristi Hidalgo, Chris Prater, Mary Hidalgo, Christin Dalasta, Troy Yates, Jr., Melissa Robinson, Tommy Yates, Evan Chambers, Addie Chambers, Kelton Daugherty, and Timothy Cullor II, great-grandchildren: Trip Yates, Tatum Yates, , Haley Yates, Levi Yates, Zayler Chambers, Hayden Prater, Bentley Prater, Olivia Dalasta, and Lyla Dalasta, brother: Jimmy Prater, sister Yvonne Lenore Pappadas.
