Conny Martin, 83, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018. Celebration of Life: 11:00 AM, Friday, September 21, 2018, Acton Baptist Church. Conny grew up in Lytle, Texas with four brothers. He enlisted in the Army in 1957 before receiving his Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1959. He then received his Master of Education degree from West Texas State University in 1970.
Conny followed in his mother’s footsteps and chose a career in education. He began his teaching career at Horace Mann Junior High in Amarillo, Texas as a PE teacher and coach. He also worked as an assistant principal at Amarillo High School. He later became a principal at Vega ISD for many years before moving to Springtown, Texas. While at Springtown, Conny worked as a principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. Conny retired from Springtown ISD after 12 years and 34 total years in education. During retirement, Conny worked part time for Hereford ISD as an assistant principal, and homebound teacher. After moving from the Texas panhandle to Burleson in 2004, Conny spent time as a volunteer at Texas Health Huguley Hospital working as a rover. Conny’s final years were spent in Granbury.
Conny’s professional life was spent as a mentor and role model for both students and teachers alike. His selfless spirit, caring attitude, and heart of gold left lasting impressions at every school in which he served.
Conny’s favorite hobby in life was golf. Conny loved to play the game of golf every chance he was afforded. Golfing forged many friendships that lasted his entire lifetime.
Conny will be remembered as a Christian, family man, educator, mentor, golfer, jokester and storyteller. Conny lived 83 years on this earth without ever meeting a stranger.
Conny was preceded in death by: Parents; Willie Lee and Elsie Martin, and Brothers; Wendell and Larry Martin. Conny is survived by: Wife – Beverly Martin, Brother – Douglas Martin, Son – Pike Martin and wife Sally Martin, Daughter – Paige McEachern and husband Mike McEachern, Stepdaughter – Michelle Barry and husband Don Barry, Stepdaughter – Marisa Bernhardt, Grandchildren – Kelsie McEachern, Kylie McEachern, Hudson Martin, Graycen Martin, and Brooklyn Martin, Uncle – Freeman White and wife Wilma White, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Heidi.
