She was born July 10, 1914, in Eudora, Arkansas, to James Bowie Haley and Eva Sansing Haley. She has four brothers and two sisters. Erma married John Greer in 1928, having two children, John Dee and Mary Francis. All preceded her in death. She married F.D. Haynie of Shreveport. He died in 1969. Erma married Lester Ponthier in 1972 becoming an active Christian at Morningside Baptist Church. A dental assistant to Dr. Harold King for 20 years, Erma was a loyal and devoted employee, maintaining contact until her death. In 1990 Lester and Erma relocated to Granbury, joining Lakeside Baptist and becoming faithful members. Erma, affectionately known as the “Mayor”, worked part-time in the church office and participated in all aspects of church life. In 2009 God called Lester home leaving Erma to continue her faithful service.
Erma was loved by all she touched, especially her children, biological and those through marriage. She called her children by marriage “love children” showing love and devotion to all.
Those mourning include grandchildren, Anne Winquist, Susan Gallion, Charles Van Ness, Donnie Elmore, Celeste Jones, Scott Hilburn, Becky Herget; great-grandchildren, Adam and Alan Niolet, Milus Gallion, and Chas Van Ness. Erma leaves countless loving friends and devoted Lakeside Baptist Church families.
