Lawana was born on January 1, 1935 at 1:00 am in Fort Worth, TX. She was the runner up for the First Baby born in the city on New Year’s Day. She grew up in Fort Worth and after meeting the love of her life, married Ben Mauldin, at the age of 15, on September 8, 1950. Lawana graduated from Fort Worth Technical High School at the age of 16 in August 1951. She later earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Wesleyan University at the age of 40 and then went on to earn her Master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University.
Lawana and her late husband, Benny Ford Mauldin, had three daughters, nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She was an elementary school teacher for many years in the HEB school district and loved every minute of it. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. Lawana will be remembered for her steadfast love of the Lord, abundant generosity to family, friends, and strangers alike and unfailing love for her family. She was a gifted writer and involved in her community through various organizations. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and grace and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ben Mauldin; her parents, Floyd Elwood and Gertrude Estelle Allred; her brothers, Leslie Allred, F.E. Allred, Jr., Herbert Bernard Allred and Aubrey Allred, Sr.
Lawana is survived by her daughters, Vicky Brower and her husband, Ken,
Marcy Weaver, Karen Clark and her husband, Greg; her grandchildren, Travis Chad Weatherly and his wife, Jennifer, Chris Weatherly and his wife, Debi, Amy Daniels, Jason Brower, Robert Brower Jared Brower, Rana Tyson and her husband, Chad, Kelsey Aldinger and her husband, Luke, and Kinsley Clark; her great grandchildren: Dean Weatherly, Taylor Weatherly, Kendyl Martin, Riley Weatherly, Reagan Tyson, Karrington Tyson, Kambrey Tyson, Gabriel Brower and Campbell Aldinger.
