Don was born May 11, 1934 in Olney, Texas to his mother, Maddie Mae Laird and father, Francis Marion Laird II.
He served in the United States Army for six years and earned several awards including, The National Defense Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal and The Korean Service Medal.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Maddie Mae Laird; father, Francis Marion Laird; all 18 brothers and sisters; his wife, Betty Juanita Oldham Laird; and his son, Don Melton Laird Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Eyvonne Laird; daughter, Donnita Kaye Ervin; son, John Raye Laird and wife, Lori Laird; grandkids; Jason Ervin, Daniel Ervin, Justin Laird, Angela Schaberg, and Shawna Goodman; great-grandkids, Jason Ervin the Third, Casey Irvin, Asher Urban, Hunter Laird, Haley Schaberg, Savannah Schaberg, Paige Hodapp, Sarah Blanger, Brett Laird, Jamie Alford; great-great-grandkids, Corbinn Blanger, Cooper Blanger, and Bentley Alford.
