Donna Ray (Brown) Landers, 89 formerly of San Angelo, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning, October 19, 2021, at a nursing home in Fort Worth, TX.
Interment will be at Sanco Cemetery, Sanco, Texas.
A memorial celebrating her life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
Donna was born Dec 24, 1931 in San Angelo, Texas to John Stonewall & Ethel Haney Brown, and was the youngest of ten children. Her mother passed away when Donna was four years old leaving a loving father to take care of her through her early teens. Donna attended schools in Monrovia, CA and Central High in San Angelo. She met Lyndon C. Landers in 1947 and married him in 1949. They were married for forty years and had two children: Lyndon Scott and Dana Kim. She was a stay-at-home mom for her children and every day watched over them and helped them. After they were grown, she worked as an inspector at a local clothing manufacturer.
Donna was one of the founding members of the Concho Valley Quilters Guild, serving as president and vice president multiple terms. She also served as chairman of many Fort Concho Quilt Shows. She made many beautiful quilts winning a first place and best of show at The State Fair of Texas, several blue ribbons and best of show at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. In 1989, she was inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame at the Houston International Quilt Show. Many of her quilts have been displayed as guest exhibitions around Texas.
Donna also loved competition line dance and was part of a group competing in the Senior Games. She attended country western dances in the San Angelo area regularly and enjoyed the companionship of friends and the good music.
Donna had a beautiful voice and sang many songs and hymns. ‘Gig’, as her grandchildren called her, always had a song for them. It was one of her greatest joys to sing for her family and friends. She and her husband were both baptized into the Christadelphian faith in 1953.
Donna is preceded in death by her father, John Stonewall Brown; mother, Ethel Cecil Haney Brown; husband, Lyndon C Landers; beloved daughter, Dana Kim Landers Warren; her brothers, Berry Brown, Hite Brown, Norris Brown and Roger Brown, and sisters, Vera McCoy, Agnes Stewart, Beaulah Snodgrass, Juanita Sharp and Vivian Helbert.
She is survived by her loving family, son, Scott Landers and wife, Cindy of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughter, Amy Warren and husband, Dan and their children, Hollister, Hope and Grace of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Shawn Warren and son, Buck of Galveston, TX; son-in-law, Dee Warren of Galveston, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Donna believed in the resurrection and the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. She is waiting for the Lord to call her name at the resurrection
