When she was 16 years old, she worked at the mall, and used her money to buy Madame Alexander Dolls which are with her daughter today. After High School, Donna went to work for DairyPak as a secretary and then for the Credit Union. Later on, she became the owner of Memory Lane Antiques and Gift Shop on the Decatur Square in Decatur, TX from 1988 – 2009. It was there that her personality flourished. Many people frequently visited her shop. She made friends with everyone that came through the door. She treated every person as if they were the most important, giving them trust that only a heart of true unconditional love can do. Many people would come to visit and talk with her. She was more than just a store owner, she was a best friend to so many giving love, friendship, and compassion to all. During retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and many friends. She would attend their sports games and events cheering them on.
Growing up, Donna was gifted in arts and crafts, most notably painting porcelain plates. Her ability to craft was seen in her gift shop. She shared this love for art with her children, putting all three in private art lessons. She would have them stencil, paint, make bows, wreaths and other crafts for her shop. She grew up going to Church and had a strong belief in Jesus Christ. Her faith would lead her to serve in numerous ministries over the years at FBC Decatur and Cross Church of Fort Worth, including Women’s Ministry, GA Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Mom to Mom, CASA of Wise County, ACS Relay for Life, Athletic Boosters, Band Boosters, and Junior Women’s Club. She started the first lady’s bible study for Cross Church in her home. She prepared snack packs for local elementary schools, and meals for those in need. She was the social planner and secretary for the Legacy Class. She was a spiritual leader to her family and to all those around her. This was her greatest gift.
Donna met her husband Sammy Teal of Haltom City in 1975 and they were married on May 1, of 1976. They were married 43 years before his passing in March of 2021. She was a wonderful wife, friend and mother. They loved to travel and go camping. Together they enjoyed raising their children and volunteering for all their sports teams and organizations. She was always planning for the next gathering, birthday or celebration, and had a talent for decorating. Most importantly, she loved her grandchildren and was always there for them.
She is survived by her three children, Gregg and Tricia Teal of Arlington, Jaime and Austin Butler of Rhome, and Samuel and Erin Teal of Glen Rose; eight grandchildren, Noah, Alina, Noble, Caroline, Mattie, Caden, Brooklynn, and Lilyan; her parents, Tommy and Betty Stephens of Fort Worth; her brother, Kevin Stephens of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Teal.
