Dorothy Faye Martin passed from this world on December 27, 2016 in Granbury. Dorothy will not have a viewing or burial per her wishes of donation to medical research and then cremation. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service from 2 – 3 p.m. this Saturday January 7th at the Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
Dorothy was born on August 7, 1943 in Snyder. She was the daughter of Douglas William Walton and Nina Grace Price. Her parents divorced while her father was serving in the army in Europe during WWII. Following her mother’s untimely death when she was barely 6 years old in an automobile accident, Dorothy was raised by her maternal grandparents. During this time, she took on their last name of Price. Her grandparents were sharecroppers and lived in many towns all over West Texas. Dorothy married Charles James in 1960 in Weatherford and to this union they had one son. Early in her adult life Dorothy moved to Oklahoma and in 1965 she married Rudy Martin. They moved to California and several years later they adopted a son. She remained there for almost 20 years living in the Bay area. Years later she discovered that while in California she had lived just a few miles away from her father who she had never met. She did get to know his family and treasured the knowledge that he had searched for her unsuccessfully for many years. In 1984 Dorothy moved back to Texas and spent the rest of her life in and around the Ft. Worth area. She moved to Hood County in 1997, living in Acton, Lipan and finally in Granbury in 2008. Dorothy was a Baptist and a member of several different churches during her life. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crafts with them along with many of her friends. One thing that anyone who knew Dorothy would agree on is that she loved life and she loved to live it on her terms. Her laughter was infectious and her humor will be remembered by all that knew her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas Walton in 1989 and her mother, Nina Price in 1949. And by several Aunts and Uncles, many who she was raised with and considered siblings.
Dorothy is survived by her sons: Scott and his wife Babs James of Acton, and Derrick Martin of Livermore, California. Grandchildren: Aaron James of Abilene, Ashley James and fiancé Nick Knapp of Granbury and Amanda Bernal of Lubbock. Step-grandchildren: Randal & Chrissy Cain of Tolar, and Ryan and Ashley Cain of Venus. Great-grandchildren: Laila James, Natalie Knapp, Zaylee and Payzlee Bernal, Cutter, Raylee and Cambree Cain, Kaleice, Kadence and Kinsler Cain. Aunts and Uncles: Lilly Moody of Weatherford, Wanda and Jim Thurman of Lindale, Johnnie and Jerry Brooks of Hudson Oaks, Thelma Walton of Denison, and Billie Kennon of Denison. Numerous cousins and friends. Special caregivers and friends Sam Westerman and Keisha Kindred were like family members to Dorothy as well.
Special thanks to the Granbury Care Center staff and to Grace Hospice for their care given to Dorothy.
