Dorothy Bursey

GRANBURY — On June 4, 2014, in Granbury, Texas, Dorothy Louise “Dot” Bursey passed on to join her best friend and husband of 76 years. James, better known as Jim, passed on May 2, 2014.
Graveside service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at the Greenwood Mausoleum in Fort Worth. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity or to Acton United Methodist Church.
Dorothy was a retired Marketing Secretary and one of the original “Rosie the Riveters”. She worked on B-24’s at Carswell Air Force Base to help out our “boys” away in the war.
Dot was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Paris, Texas. She grew up in Fort Worth, graduated from North Side High School in 1938 and married her high school sweetheart, James Bursey, that same year. She was an active member of Acton United Methodist Church since 1980 and served many years on the Administrative Council. She attended the 50/50 Sunday School class and served one year as president of the class. She was also an active member of the Lake Granbury Medical Center Auxiliary and was President of the Auxiliary in 1985-1986. Mrs. Bursey was well known as “Dot” at People Helping People for many years. She was cashier/hostess at the 100+ year old historic Nutt House Restaurant on the Granbury Square. When she retired, the town square celebrated with a “DOT” on their store windows to designate that it was in honor of Dot’s Day. She never met a stranger.
Survivors: As Dot joins Jim again, this wonderful couple leaves behind a wonderful legacy of two daughters, Dorothy Kneisel and Donna Bursey; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jack Cameron; sister-in-law, Sue Bursey; cousin, Betty Hall; and many nieces and nephews.
