Dorris Jean Reid Vaughan Peck, 86, passed away peacefully, at home, in her sleep on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Celebration of life: 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Wiley Funeral Home Chapel, Granbury, TX. Interment: Acton Cemetery, Visitation: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday April 30, 2018, Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury.
Dorris was born in the Texas Panhandle to Weaver and Ollie Reid. She grew up in Colorado City where she met and remained close friends with elementary school girls: Wanda Nix (Sam), Era Jane Richey (Pete), Pat Finley Vaught (Buzzy), Ethelyn Brecher (Smitty) and Dorris was known as “Mert”.
She moved to Midland and married and divorced Forrest Vaughan and had two daughters, Karron and Karla. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for many years. She met and married Marvin Peck in 1973 and helped raise his three boys, Steve, Scott and Shawn. They moved to Houston and then to Granbury and were married for 38 years.
Dorris had an absolutely, wonderful personality and never met a stranger. She could say “Hi” to someone and they would tell her their life story. Her sense of humor was always alive and she loved to laugh. She loved to play in the dirt planting flowers and gardening. She was also an exceptional artist who loved to paint Bluebonnets. She also loved to, and was a very good, cook.
Dorris was the youngest of 7 children and preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Nevis, Iva Armstrong, Emma Dean Patterson, Billie Hayes, Jack Reid and William (Bill) Reid.
Dorris is survived by her loving children: Karron Vaughan, Karla Vaughan, Steve Peck and wife Theresa, Letty Peck, daughter-in-law, several loving grandchildren and nieces Dottie Howell, Megan DiPesa and nephew Bill Reid Jr.
Dorris was loved dearly by all that knew her and she will truly be missed! She’s dancing in Heaven!
The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for the wonderful, compassionate and loving care they provided during these past years and especially thanks to Nikki, her aide and Kay the Social worker.
