GLEN ROSE — Doug Ransom, 67, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, in Glen Rose.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Glen Rose High School Auditorium. Burial: White Church Cemetery in Somervell County. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Doug was born July 27, 1947 in Houston, Texas to Robert and Jimmie (Hazel) Ransom. He attended school in Houston, before starting a career in industrial maintenance. After several years of working in industrial maintenance, he moved to Walnut Springs, Texas where he began working for his sister and brother-in-law at Walnut Springs Feed Mill. Doug and Brenda married on March 23, 1984. Their son, Chris Ransom, was born May 31, 1985. Following the death of his brother-in-law, D.O. Timmerman in 1986, Doug worked for Hooks Ford in Granbury, Texas and later for Bruner Motors, in Stephenville, Texas.
Doug began his career in law enforcement in 1991 as a jailer for Somervell County. He graduated from North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Police Academy in September 1991, as a Certified Texas Peace Officer. He attained the rank of Intermediate Peace Officer in August 1999, Advanced Peace Officer in October 2003, and Master Peace Officer in September 2011. Doug worked for four sheriffs: Bill Hall, Mac Yocham, Roger Hill, and Greg Doyle, before retiring in April 2013. Doug served a total of 22 years in Somervell County law enforcement as a jailer, deputy, investigator, and patrol sergeant.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, D.O. Timmerman; sister, Bobbie Timmerman; brother-in-law, Bill Buzan; and nephew, Notch Timmerman.
Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Brenda Buzan Ransom; son, Chris Ransom; Bodie Butler and wife, Liz; grandsons, Brandon and Baker Butler; Nieces, Darlene Chambers and husband Danny, Karolee Wolfe, Mellissia Rose and husband Curtis; nephew, Phillip Buzan; and brother-in-law Blake Lester; great nephews, Heath Chambers, Drew Chambers, Tad Oates, Corey Rose, Dylan Buzan, and Devin Buzan; great niece, Courtney Rose; and many friends and colleagues.
