Houston — Emarie Luton Mann died peacefully on Sunday evening, March 13, 2016, in Houston. She was 89.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 21, at Granbury Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to your local library to honor Emarie’s love of books and reading or to the Houston Children’s Museum.
Born in Fort Worth on August 12, 1926, she was the daughter of John Sidney Luton, Sr., and Octavia Moore Luton. She graduated from Paschal High School and worked in the Girl Scout regional office.
She married Hugh Thomas Mann, a geologist from Fort Worth, on February l2, 1952, and they moved to several West Texas towns following his work in the oil fields.
They settled in Houston where she was a homemaker and served as librarian for the First Methodist Church. She received the Volunteer of the Year award for 2006-2007 from the Houston Children’s Museum for her work in its library. She was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Houston.
Emarie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, John S. Luton, Jr., and Robert M. Luton, Sr., and by a niece, Pamela McCrary.
She is survived by her sister, Louise Luton McCrary of Post; nieces Suzanne Luton Woodruff and husband Forester of Renton Washington, Mary McCrary of Lubbock, Nancy Luton of Houston; nephews John Henry Luton and wife Marilyn of Granbury, Robert M. Luton, Jr., and wife Diane of San Antonio, Giles McCrary, Jr., and wife Jaci of Fort Worth; more than thirty grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews.
