“Deenie” left this earth Friday, April 12th after 96 glorious years.
Born in Binger, Oklahoma, raised in Hot Springs, New Mexico, and was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and husband of over 50 years, Walt.
The Newland family lived most of their lives in Southern California. Walt and Deenie retired in 1976 and moved back to New Mexico. Deenie was an accomplished watercolor artist and found beauty wherever she went. She lived in Texas for over fifteen years, recently residing at Waterview Senior Living. Deenie loved animals, art, and spirited conversation.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Larsen (Siesta Key, FL), her daughter Delia Martin and husband Tommy (Pittsburg, TX), and lifelong friends Bonnie and John Burt (Tucson, AZ). Friends too many to mention, but all were blessings throughout her life.
Deenie’s wishes were to join Walt and be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. She would be honored to have remembrances made to help the animals at Second Chance Farm, P.O. Box 1085, Granbury, Texas 76048.
Special thanks to Harbor Lakes, Interim Hospice Care, and especially Ronda Herrin, who made her final transition to heaven a joyous one.

It is a true blessing to have so very many delightful memories of Deenie and was my extreme pleasure to treat Walt as my VA Home Care patient at Crystal Cove, CA. Every visit was an adventure, and brought brightness of my day. Michael and I would visit and enjoy the Beach views and see the dolphins play. We will forever treasure Walt and Deenie in our thoughts and in our hearts.
