Eugene “Gene” William Sonnamaker

Eugene William “Gene” Sonnamaker, 87, left this earthly home to be with his Lord and previously departed loved ones on Monday, February 24, 2014.

There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Friday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Northeast Texas Chapter, 3840 Hulen St., Suite 600, Fort Worth, Texas 76107.

Gene was born in Megargel on January 31, 1927. He was raised in Spur and was proud to have served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Gideon, on January 29, 1950, and they moved their family to Fort Worth and bought a house in 1962. He was loved and cherished by his wife, admired and loved by his children and grandchildren and his influence can be seen in them all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sonnamaker and Anna Rilla Hutto Sonnamaker, his brothers, Roger Sonnamaker and Clinton Sonnamaker, sister, Nina Mae Sonnamaker Ernest, and two beloved daughters, Patricia and Jeanene Sonnamaker.

He is survived and his memory will be cherished by wife, Mary; sons, Michael Eugene Sonnamaker and wife, Tyrena, and Jerry Sonnamaker; six grandchildren, Joshua Sonnamaker, Jennifer Sonnamaker, Jacqueline Sonnamaker Impson, Lloyd Sonnamaker, Terran Jean Renkenberger and Aaron Sonnamaker; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
