Eugene Starnes Ratliff, 93, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 in Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 at the Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose. Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27th also at Wiley Funeral Home. Interment following at: Nubbin Ridge Cemetery. Memorials: Glen Rose Masonic Lodge.
Gene was born January 4, 1926 in Rainbow, Texas to Mortimer and Mary Starnes Ratliff. He was raised in Rainbow and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a lifelong member of the Glen Rose Masonic Lodge. He married Ruth Wylie on January 10, 1948 and were happily married for 69 years. Gene was a hardworking farmer and rancher and was also the owner/operator of Ratliff Tire Co. in Glen Rose since 1957. He was a highly regarded, honorable, and generous man who was full of wit and wisdom. All who knew him knew how much he enjoyed his 5 o’clock glass of bourbon. He was preceded in death by his wife on October 27, 2017; his parents; and a brother, Ben Ratliff.
Survivors: Sons, Larry and wife Bettye Ratliff and Jerry and wife Yolanda Ratliff; grandchildren, Cary and Marisha Ratliff, Danny and Mary Ratliff, Gena and Brian Davison, Sarah and Vagelis Dimitrokallis, Sean Ray, Robert and Brittany Gent and Scott Gent; 17 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and brother Dan Ratliff.
