Mrs Hawker taught my 2 girls 1st grade and they loved her. She was a wonderful teacher and woman. I enjoyed talking with her through the years following her retirement. Not only was she intelligent, she was a funny lady. I know she will be missed greatly.

She was so patience with the first grade students,especially with my son Ricky. She would put him on her lap when he was upset or crying for me. He was really shy and she would take the time to soothe him. Ricky loved her so much. I really loved her too. She will be missed.

Jean was a daily tribute to the definition of a selfless friend and giver. Anyone who needed anything within her power could call her. She never learned how to say No even when she was too tired. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your precious mother. She was such a joy and delight to me always. I loved her when I was just a kid, but even more as a first year teacher when I joined her at Sour Lake Elementary. She just took me under her wing and made sure I knew all the right "teachery" things to do. Your mom was always ready to laugh and encourage us, as well as her students. She was my niece's first grade teacher and what a boost of confidence she was able to bestow. I feel so fortunate to have known her and been loved by her. Such a treasure.
