James “Jim” C. Jones, 82, a retired U.S. Army sergeant first class, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011.
Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Interment: Holly Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wiley Funeral Home.
James was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Elkville, Ill., to Ralph and Lucille Taitt Jones. He married Elsie Joan Cabral on Nov. 27, 1954, in New Bedford, Mass. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, stationed at Fort Knox, Ky.; Okinawa, Japan; Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Sill, Okla.; Fort Devens, Mass.; Puerto Rico; Fort Riley, Kan.; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Holloman AFB, N.M.; and Fort Bliss. He served five tours in Korea and a tour in Vietnam.
Jim loved his train collection and built an expansive lay-out that included a military base. He was a 4th-degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, in 1999.
Survivors: Children, Jamie Jones, Kelley Jones, Kevin Jones (Chelle); grandchildren, Deanna Ottens (Greg), Justin Jones; great-grandson, Ethan Ottens; sister, Dottie Baker (Bill); nieces; and nephews.
