James Paul Ingle, Sr. passed away in the early hours of Friday, May 18, 2018 in Granbury, TX after a brief illness. He was 82.
Paul was born in Nocona, TX on February 16, 1936 and spent his early years in Gore, OK.
He spent 32 years teaching and coaching basketball, baseball and golf in Texas schools including Van Horn, Seminole, Irving, Haltom City and Euless. He created a legacy through hundreds of players who eventually became coaches and he maintained contact with many of them through the years. He retired at age 55. Several of his former players will serve as pallbearers for his service.
A collegiate All-American, Paul had offers to play professional baseball and basketball but chose coaching right after his marriage to Mary Jack Edwards in 1956 while finishing his master’s degree at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX. At Sul Ross, his baseball team won the NAIA national title and recently the team and surviving players were inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame.
While attending Connors Junior College in Oklahoma in 1954 and 1955, he achieved basketball records that remain unequalled today.
Paul was an avid, competitive and accomplished golfer. Active in retirement, Paul mentored and ‘coached’ his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling with his devoted wife LaDell, children and his sister, Geneva to all 48 contiguous states. He continued to play golf up until recently despite his declining health and mobility.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Tom Ingle and Ethel Mae Reed Ingle and siblings Madeline, Ruth and Thomas.
He leaves behind his brother Mike Ingle and sister Geneva Remer; his wife of almost 34 years, LaDell; sons Paul Ingle, Jr. (and his wife Nita); Christopher Edwards Ingle; Les King (and his wife Kim); Wes King; daughter Kristi Reyero (and her wife Paula); grandchildren Josh King; Ryan Ingle (and his wife Cassie); Taylor Ingle; Chelsea Smith (and her husband Branden); Christian Reyero and great grandchildren Lauren Mayfield; Jaxon Ingle; Austin Ingle and Jayce Smith and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
