GRANBURY, Texas — James T. “Dutch” Wellman, 72, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at his Hood County home with loving family at his side.
Funeral: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Wiley Funeral Home. Interment: 2:15 p.m. Thursday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
Memorials: Shrine Burn Hospital for Children or charity of your choice.
Dutch was born Mar. 8, 1941, in Wichita Falls, TX, to James Thomas Wellman, Sr. and Opal Mae Vernon Wellman. He married Andrea Jeanne LaBathe Sept. 14, 1995, in Pensacola, Fla. Dutch was a Vietnam War era Naval Aviator and held the rank of Lt. Commander at retirement. He retired as Captain for Northwest Airlines after 32 years. He was past president of the Lake Granbury Shrine Club, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, Daedalians, Retired Northwest Pilots Association, and the Granbury Opera Guild. Dutch had a zest for life, a legendary sense of humor, fun, and pranks. He loved travel, flying, golf, music, friendships, and family most of all. Dutch’s good-humored presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors: Wife, Andrea Wellman of Granbury, TX; son, James Wellman, III of Burnsville, Minn.; daughter, Romi Taylor of Burnsville, Minn.; step-daughter, Christa Barfknecht of Madison, Wis.; granddaughters, Sophie Taylor, Olivia Taylor and Ella Wellman, all of Burnsville, Minn., Assata Harper of Madison, Wis.; sisters, Beverly Ryan of Wichita Falls, TX, Gloria Wellman of Santa Fe, N.M., Donna Sue (Skeet) Taigen of Dublin, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
