Janet Hanna

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Hanna, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to the many people whose lives she touched on October 20, 2021. 

Janet was born on June 24, 1953 in Guymon, Oklahoma to W.D. “Mac” McMurry and Betty Couch McMurry. She was the fifth of seven children in a close-knit family. Janet graduated high school in Guymon and went on to get her BS in medical technology from Oklahoma State University. She married David Collins, her high school sweetheart, and they settled down in Granbury, Texas, where they raised their family. They had three beautiful daughters, Audrey, Shelly, and Rachel. After several years of working as a medical technician, Janet went back to school and got her M. Ed. in counseling from Tarleton State University. She was a counselor at Southern Concepts for several years. She changed careers once again and became a financial advisor for Edward Jones. Janet later married Dale Hanna, Johnson County District Attorney, of Cleburne, TX. She spent her retirement traveling with friends and family, and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. 

Janet’s smile with her huge dimples absolutely lit up the entire room around her. She was easy with her laughter and her love. She was sensitive and kind, and also highly intelligent, resourceful, and determined. Her humor was contagious, it seems like she was always laughing and making those around her laugh. Janet was extremely generous and considerate to everyone. She was the best of friends, maintaining many of her relationships throughout her life, regardless of distance. She didn’t care for strife in interactions, but when presented with difficult situations, she always could turn it around to the best possible outcome. Her extreme intelligence made it easy for her to keep re-inventing herself, changing careers several times over the years, becoming very successful at each of them. As a mother, she loved her daughters Big and Fierce, and as a result they have each become fantastic mothers themselves. She adored all of her grandchildren and loved spending time with them as often as possible. In return, Janet was loved by so many people, and she will be missed very dearly. 

Janet is survived by her husband, Dale Hanna, of Cleburne, TX; daughters Audrey Collins Dake (Adam), Shelly Collins Brabner (Michael), and Rachel Collins Downey (Stephen); step-children Blake Hanna (Kathy), Josh Hanna (Kristin), Marcus Hanna (Courtney), and Erin Hanna Stelter (Keith); grandchildren  David, William, Cora, Paxton, Huxley, Ashlynn, Regan, Teagan, Berklee, Harrison, Kensington, Cage, Jack, and Ben; siblings Mike McMurry (MaryAnn), Marcia Fears (John), Kelly McMurry (Michelle), Jill Fears (Doug), Holly McMurry, and Tere Curtis (Johnny). She is also survived by so many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews that adored her and loved her beyond words. Janet was an amazing friend, and was loved by too many to list, but in particular, her Padre Girls Sharon Barnes, Trisha Thomas, Jan Williams, Rhonda Naylor, Martha Hamilton, and Carol Watson, and her longtime friends Shannon Males, Louise Deems, and Claudia Southern.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents W.D. McMurry, Betty McMurry, first husband David Collins, and grandson Cal Hanna.

Services for Janet will be held on October 26, 2021 at Acton Methodist Church in Granbury, TX at 1:00 pm.
