Jean was born October 24, 1936, in Cleburne, Texas to Joan Messelt McCowen and William Charles McCowen, reared by her grandparents, Mary McLeod McCowen and William Green McCowen.
She was a graduate of Cleburne High School and the University Mary Hardin Baylor (UMHB). Jean then work at UMHB for many years before ending her 20 year career with the Texas Safety Association as the Executive Director in Dallas. As director, she was invited to the White House for President Reagan’s signing of the Safe Kids Act, (to which she made a major contributions), received numerous national awards for accident prevention and safety programs as well as obtaining designations as a Certified Association Executive and Certified Safety Council Executive.
Amongst other achievements, she was ordained an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, a life-long involvement in sacred music and becoming the first paid director at the First Presbyterian Church in Belton. She continued Christian involvement by serving as the Chair of the organizing committee for the Lakeside Christian Fellowship Church, and hiring the current pastors.
In addition to her love of music and singing, Jean greatly enjoyed traveling. She had visited over 15 countries, including, but not limited to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, South America and Canada. Leisure activities included sewing, reading, cooking including bread and cheese making, glass engraving, gardening, singing and spending time with many dear and caring friends.
Preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Ruth McCowen Broussard and William Charles McCowen, Jr.
Survived by husband of 31 years, Warwick Andrews; sons, Cleat Roberts, Mark Andrews, Paul Andrews and wife, Rebecca; four grandchildren, as well as many friends, family and loved ones.
