Jeanie Smith died January 19, 2021 peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones. Jeanie was born April 13, 1934 to Jess Louis and Mary Oleta Kelley. She was a graduate of Granbury High School 1952; a GHS Cheerleader, Coming Home Queen in 2002, and she and Travis were class favorites in 1951. She graduated from Tarleton State University with a degree in Medical Technology, and she was a Purple Poo. She started her career at Terrel Laboratories in Fort Worth, Texas as a Med Tech. She opened Granbury Flower Shop in 1967, making her one of the first female business owners in Hood County.
In October of 2020, she was honored by having the Forward Training Center Building named for her. She represented the mission of this organization “to educate, support, and inspire”. She attended school in the same building 73 years before.
Jeanie was a beloved member of the Hood County Community and is remembered as being hardworking, generous, talented, fun, faithful and inspiring. She was a Lifelong resident of Hood County and a 4th generation Hood County resident.
Jeanie was raised in the Methodist Church and had been a member of First Presbyterian Church of Granbury for years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Travis Smith, and son-in-law Phillip Nivens.
Survivors – daughters Marla Caraway and husband Rick and Vicki Nivens. Grandchildren Whitney Hill and fiancé Alex Hunter, Tessa Hill, Carie Decker and husband Chad, Aaron Weaver, Ryan Culberson and husband Justin, and Lanie Nivens. Great-grandchildren MayCee and Allie Decker, and Talan and Tate Culberson. She was also lovingly survived and greatly blessed by “bonus daughter” Debbie Brown and long term caregiver, Brenda Stephens.
Her family, friends and the community will fondly remember and truly miss her.
