It’s with a heavy heart that we must share that Jennifer Hamzy, Eaton high schools’ head cheerleading coach and an economics and government teacher, suddenly passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 following a year-long battle against cancer.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Biggers Funeral Chapel.
Jennifer Lea Hamzy was born May 4, 1973 in Fort Worth. Mrs. Hamzy was a compassionate mother, coach, and teacher with a true love of her students. Despite dealing with difficult days from her fight with cancer, she showed up to school eager and ready to support her students. It wasn’t easy for her, but she did it because she cared about her students.
She believed in the potential of every student she worked with and strived to engage them and push them toward success. Mrs. Hamzy joined Eaton High School five years ago after teaching and coaching in EMS-ISD, and she has made a positive impact on the campus ever since, especially in her efforts with cheer. She was known by many of her students as a confidant and ally as they went through the difficulties of starting adulthood. Jennifer was known for her students’ exceptional advanced placement exam scores, which were recognized at the state & national level on multiple occasions.
Jennifer loved to bake and was an avid reader of all things Jane Austen & loved Sci-Fi movies. She adored her family & loved to play & take selfies with their cats. Prior to her breast cancer diagnosis in 1998, she was a frequent blood donor; after her cancer treatment was finished, she traveled to hospitals around the DFW to talk with other women who were fighting breast cancer & provided their families with much needed support.
Please keep the Hamzy family – her loving husband Kevin and their two children – in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this tragic loss of an amazing educator, mother, and wife.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin; her children, Josh and Ellie; her brother Jon and his wife, Jennifer, and their daughter Tricia; her father, Michael; her grandmothers, Florine & Lou; her great aunt and uncle, Pam and David; along with many extended family members and friends.
