Jerry Lee Wright

Jerry Lee Wright, 73, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 in Fort Worth.  Service: 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Grace Baptist Church in Fort Worth.  Interment: Smiths Bend – Coon Creek Cemetery.  Memorials:  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Grace Baptist Church Missions Fund, 1501 Jim Wright Freeway, Fort Worth, TX 76108 or at www.gracelink.org/give.

Jerry was born November 8, 1944, in Durant, OK.  He was the oldest son of the late, Nelson and Juanita Wright.  Jerry grew up on the family farm just outside of Achille alongside his three sisters, Morene, Shirley, Joetta and his younger brother, Jimmy.  After graduating from Achille High School, he attended Southeastern State University where he graduated in three years.

Jerry began his military career with the United States Air Force on March 12, 1967.  After attending weather classes, he served as a meteorologist for ten years.  He was assigned to the United States Army for six years, two of those were spent with the Second Armored Division in Fort Hood under the command of General George S. Patton, III.  While in Killeen, he continued his education and earned his Master’s Degree.  During this time, Jerry had two sons, Jerrod Lee Wright and Kristian Michael Wright.

While the first half of his military career was spent in meteorology, his second was spent working in accounting and finance.  While stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base, he was introduced to Joan Patton by his friend and co-worker, David Snipes.  Jerry and Joan were married on July 14, 1979, and he gained a daughter, Angie Patton.  In June of 1982, Jerry was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth where he retired from military service on March 31, 1987.

Jerry continued his career in civil service working nine years for the United State Postal Service and four years in accounting and finance for the Air Force Reserve at the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth.  He eventually retired to spend time with Joan, his kids, and especially his grandchildren, Jacey Patton, Madeline Wright, Elizabeth Wright, Emma Wright, and Ian Wright.

Jerry became an avid golfer in retirement, usually playing 3-5 days a week.  He volunteered as the golf coach at Temple Christian School in Fort Worth from 2010-2014.  Jerry and Joan enjoyed traveling together and often combined their love of travel with his love of golf.

Jerry Wright was a family man, a hard worker, and most importantly a Christ follower with a heart for supporting missions.  It is fitting that Jerry was called home on Father’s Day.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Jerrod and his wife, Jerri, Kristian, and Angie; four granddaughters, Jacey, Madeline, Elizabeth and Emma, and one grandson, Ian; sisters, Morene, Shirley, and Joetta; brother, Jimmy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
