Jesse Overton was born July 26th, 1960 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to happy parents Veda and Harlan Overton. As a young child, he would go around town to the home of different towns people,
who would rub his (then) bright blonde head for good luck and ply him with the gum and cookies he asked for. Needless to say, he was the bright and shining center of attention from the very
beginning.
His brothers were the first to complain about how he stole their girlfriend’s attention and admiration.
But throughout his life, this attention and admiration spread outward as he entertained family, friends, admirers and fans alike with his musical talents or helped friends in need.
He dearly loved all of his friends, and he was the type of man that would do anything for them, even canceling his own plans if it meant he could help. He loved sharing his own love of music, but
he also enjoyed meals with others and taking them to the movies. He would always comment on the story, the themes, the skill of the actors, and he loved watching the credits after every movie
to see if there were any actors that had played that he hadn’t caught. He loved humor, though he couldn’t tell a joke to save his life.
Those who knew him knew of a man who was stubborn but helpful, both set in his ways while simultaneously being surprisingly open-minded. He was as intelligent as he was witty and kind as he
was helpful.
But above all else, he was a family man. When his first daughter was born, he laid with her on his chest and the nurse came in, took one look at him, and said “Oh you are in so much trouble.” He
went on to have 3 more children and loved each for their unique individuality, not ever prizing one above the other. From watching barney with his 2nd oldest Arianna to appreciating the unique
weirdness and strangeness of his oldest daughter’s mind. He kept a list of all the funny things his 3rd daughter, Emily, would say, and he would make string for Dominic to play with. He loved all his
kids.
He enjoyed catching up with his brothers and spending time at his sister’s lake house with her, as well as having Sunday meals with his mother.
He was beloved by family friends admirers and fans alike, and he will be missed dearly but if the life of Jesse Overton has taught us anything, let it be to let our souls shine as bright as they can
and our hearts to love as deeply as they are capable. Let us savor every moment and live life to the full in both big things AND in small. But most importantly, let’s remember, like he told his girls
every night, to, “Wake up with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.”
Services will be held on October 1st from 5pm to 8pm at Wiley’s funeral home.
