Jimmie H. Barbour

GRANBURY — Jimmie H. Barbour of Granbury and Indianola, Iowa, passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2015.
Memorial service was held in Granbury where his daughter’s family lives. A full military service will be held at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Jimmie’s honor to the John Stoddard Cancer Center at Unity Point Health, Attn: Stoddard Survivorship Program, 1221 Pleasant Street, Suite 590, Des Moines, Iowa 50309. Jimmie was the son of Virgil L. and Goldie (Hill) Barbour, born on July 22, 1937. He was married to Lois Ann (Vander Hamm) Barbour on Nov. 6, 1960 and together they owned and operated Barbour Construction, Inc. for 35 years. Their company sold, installed, and serviced grain and fertilizer handling equipment.

Jimmie served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. He was stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, Ft. Knox and Ft. Carson. He was a member of the American Legion. For over 52 years, Jimmie worked as a millwright in the grain-handling business. He was hard-working, ingenious with developing mechanical solutions, stood by the quality of his work, and delivered exceptional customer service.

He was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Family was of utmost importance and he especially enjoyed seeing his children and granddaughters grow and make their way in the world. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Jackie L. Barbour.

Jimmie impacted thousands of lives in person and through his service to others. He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann; a daughter, Dixie Lee (and her husband Craig) Hedgecock; a son, Dwight H. Barbour and two granddaughters, Allison Ann (and her husband Mason) Luedeker and Alisha Lynn (and her husband Colt) Thomas. He is also survived by three sisters, Mae Gordon, Pauline Klenz and Judy Blankenship; one brother, Joe A. Barbour; his step-mother, Lucille Barbour; three step-sisters, Elsie (and her husband Billy) Meyer, Kathy (and her husband Larry) Murphy and Sherry Lynn (and her husband Richard) Tuttle; many nieces and nephews.
