Joann was born February 5, 1933 in Littlefield, Texas. A graduate of Littlefield High School, she completed her studies at Texas Tech University where she earned her B.S. in education. While there, she met and married her husband, John Paul Jones, a member of the Texas Tech Red Raider football team.
Joann was a highly intelligent woman and an extraordinary school teacher. She taught elementary children in various Texas public schools for 27 years. Her favorite subject was teaching reading. She taught hundreds of children to read, including one child who refused to talk when he came to school – she had him reading out loud by the end of the semester. She retired from teaching in 1992.
She was marvelously creative and artistic. She expressed those talents many ways but mostly as a gracious hostess, entertaining her many friends at fabulous theme parties and holiday gatherings. She was a fantastic cook and homemaker. She enjoyed golf and loved traveling to the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. She was at the gym every morning at 5:00 am.
An avid studier of the Bible, she was a person of great faith. She was an active member of Acton Methodist Church and she loved her family, church and her many friends.
Everyone who met this beautiful woman knew that this was no ordinary life. Hers was a life well lived, and a life well loved. Her loss is immeasurable. But her greatest devotion was to her husband, John Paul, whose love, friendship and support she deeply cherished and missed after his death in 2007. Now together, they are in heaven.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister.
Survivors: Those left on earth who continue to love her and cherish her memory are her beloved sons, Randy and Rex Jones, daughter Michelle Blaine and grandson, Anthony Jones.
