CRESSON — Joe Gordon Huffman, Jr., 75, a man who dedicated his life to helping others and the world of firefighting, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at Cresson Fire Department Fire Hall in Cresson, Texas. Burial: Cresson Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: In Lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department (Joe said they need a new truck).
He graduated Polytechnic High school in 1958 and joined the Navy and was stationed in Charleston SC and met the love of his life on a blind date. He married Charlotte in 1959 and they were still married after 55 years. He spent 31 year as a fire fighter for the City of Fort Worth (May 1, 1963-January 31, 1994) before retiring from Station 5 and Top Gun Fire Truck as a Lieutenant. He joined the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department in 1988 and was Fire Chief upon his death. He grew the Cresson Fire Department into what it is today. He was Fort Worth Fire Fighter of the year in 1987. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Gordon Huffman, Sr. and Marion Keller Huffman, and a brother, Mark Huffman.
Survivors: Wife: Charlotte; Sons, Jeff, Rick; Daughters-in-Law, Dana, Jamie; Grandchildren, Jennifer Huffman, Jeffrey Huffman, Chase Huffman, Joe Thomas Huffman, Chance Huffman; Great-Grand Children, Destiny Wright, Colton Uselton, Jessie Uselton; Brother: Frank; and many extended family and friends as well as his fire fighting family
