John Alan James Paterson, of Granbury, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018. Memorial service: 2:00 PM, Monday, October 8, 2018, Wiley Funeral Home Chapel, Granbury.
John was born May 7, 1959 in Fort William, Scotland to mother Agnes and father John Forbes. He had an older sister by two years named Catherine who currently lives in Fort William, Scotland. When John was 7 years old Agnes married Walter Paterson who adopted both children and loved them as his own. John grew up in numerous towns in the highlands of Scotland due to his parents purchasing and managing several businesses in different areas. John graduated from Lochaber High School in 1975. He then was hired in a hotel in Elgin in 1976 and that is where his cooking career began. John was an excellent chef in several hotels and restaurants from the Highlands of Scotland to London to the South of France. He married Linda Strachan in 1984, and they had a beautiful daughter, Michelle, in 1989. They were happily married for 14 years, and remained good friends through the years after. John had a tremendous entrepreneurial spirit and drive, and formed a company purveying shellfish to wholesalers all over Europe and China in mid-late 1990’s.
In September of 2002 he was introduced to Charlotte Ferris who lived in Texas, and they communicated long distance by phone and email until he made the decision to marry her and bravely leave all he knew and loved in Scotland to move to Weatherford, Texas in February of 2003. In May of 2006 they moved to Granbury, Texas and purchased an aerobic septic maintenance company and formed C & J Services. John was also a partner in a residential water provider company Thorp Spring Water. John loved spending his afternoons and evenings at his “local pub” Chili’s Bar & Grill in Granbury enjoying a few beers with his many friends. His greatest loves were his daughter Michelle, wife Charlotte, cooking and creating unique foods, socializing with good friends, Budweiser beer and “pub time”, and adventures in travel and entrepreneurship.
John is survived by his loving wife Charlotte, daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Aidan Purcell of Fort William, Scotland, and many loved friends and family in both Texas and Scotland.
