John Edwin Thurmond, Jr., 76, passed away Friday, October 16, 2015 in Granbury.

John was born August 13, 1939 to John and Virginia Thurmond in Dallas. While still young, John’s family moved to Spokane, WA. He had a job as a soda jerk at the local malt shop. There he met Julie McEachran; they eloped in 1958. Work brought John and Julie back to Texas in 1965. A self-taught mechanic, John bought an automotive shop in Irving. He loved all kinds of racing, the faster the better; his favorite boat was “Long Gone.” He and Julie enjoyed boating at many lakes. They also spent 4 years RV’ing. In 2001, John and Julie moved to Granbury and joined Lakeside Baptist Church. John was preceded in death by his parents.

John leaves behind wife Julie Thurmond; son John Thurmond, III; daughter Heidi Hutchison (Brett); grandchildren Amber and Zach Hutchison; sisters Mary Zahn (Terry), Kathy Carssow (Jim Lunney); brother Walt Groves (Sandy); numerous other close family members.
