John F. Phillips, 77, died peacefully Wednesday, November 27, 2013, with his family at his side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2920 Azle Ave. Interment
will be at Greenwood Memorial Park. A recitation of the holy rosary will commence at 6 p.m. Friday with a visitation following at Biggers Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association or St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund.
John was born April 28, 1936, the third of eight children to George and Pearl Phillips of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953. While on a tour of duty at Torrejon AFB in Spain, he met the love of his life, Trini, and on October 18, 1958, they were married. They were blessed with a son, John, and a daughter, Christine.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, John spent a number of years working for and retiring from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was very active with the Knights of Columbus, for which he served as treasurer for several years. After his retirement from the postal service, he enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Trini. He also enjoyed giving his time to help others through the Meals on Wheels program. He was most proud of and dearly loved his two granddaughters, Sarah and Hannah Phillips.
John was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearl; brothers, Charles, Edward and Larry; and a sister, Mary.
He is survived by his wife, Trini Phillips; son, John Phillips and wife, Martha; daughter, Christine Brooks and husband, Robert; granddaughters, Sarah and Hannah Phillips; brothers, Donald and Thomas Phillips; sister, Emily Fish.
