GRANBURY — John R. “Tony” Rivera, 78, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, in Granbury, with his loving wife by his side.
Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Tony was born Oct. 12, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John Joseph Rivera and Maria Teresa Gusman Rivera. On April 14, 1988, he married Parthenia “Tina” Willams and they celebrated 26 beautiful years together. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and later worked as a welder by trade. He was an ardent TCU fan. Tony was the loving devoted dad to five children and much loved “Popi” to 12 grandchildren. He had been ill for almost three years and his wife, brother-in-law, Dermon, and daughter, Jennifer, were his caregivers.
Survivors: Wife, Parthenia “Tina” Rivera of Granbury; children, Angela Rivera Pokluda of Fort Worth, John Rivera of Fort Worth, Samantha Rivera Romer of Fort Worth, Jeff Cummings of Granbury, Jennifer Holmes and husband, Russell, of Granbury; 12 grandchildren; sister, Ida Miranda of Calif.; brother-in-law, Dermon Williams of Granbury; and many friends.
Memorials: American Diabetes Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
