Joy Reeves Slaughter

Joy Slaughter, 79, went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 18, 2021 surrounded by family. The viewing will be Friday, March 5, 2021 from 9 am to 7 pm, with the family receiving friends from 4:30-6:30 pm. Funeral Services will be at 1 pm , Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Biggers Funeral Home, Lake Worth, with a processional to the Graveside Service at 2 pm at Dido, Texas Cemetery.

Joy was born August 4, 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas at Methodist Hospital to parents Jack and Margaret Reeves.  They lived in Cleburne, Texas until Joy was 14 years old, when she and her parents moved to Fort Worth.  She graduated from North Side High School, May 25, 1959.  Joy began working at first National Bank June 1959.  In December 1962, she met her future husband, Gibbs M. Slaughter, Jr.  They married the next year on November 26, 1963.

In March 1964, Slaughter Marine Company started.  Throughout the years, the boat repair business was a wonderful opportunity to serve their customers and continued in 1992 with the creation of their manufacturing company, Gibco Flex-Mold, Inc.

Joy was very active in the Ft. Worth community and a member of the Ft. Worth Boat Club, Eagle Mountain Lake Womens’ Club, Eagle Mountain Lake Classic Boat Club and a longtime member of Lake Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gibbs Slaughter in 2013; their most treasured daughter, Stacy in 1988; her father Jack in 1970, her mother Margaret in 1982, and sister Ann R. Sherrill in 2015.

Survivors: Ann Slaughter Wallin, sister-in-love; nieces, Cara W. Reid, LeAnn Quick, Cynthia Puckett; nephews, Curtis & Clay Wallin; cousins and countless friends.

In Memoriam of flowers, Joy requested donations to be made to Cook Children’s Hospital or Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Joy brought happiness and joy to everyone she met.
