He trained extensively as a pilot and served in the Pacific during World War II. His crew dropped rescue boats to other pilots and crew members who had been shot down by enemy fire.
On the day he returned to Crosbyton from the war, he met Jackie Bedford. They were married on August 1, 1946. They recently celebrated their 70th Anniversary. Larry and Jackie had three children, Susan, Steve and Mike. The family lived in Littlefield, Texas for 24 years then relocated to Brownwood, Texas. Larry and Jackie moved to Granbury, Texas to be near their only grandson, M.J. Parker, who has always been their pride and joy. He and his grandfather always had a special bond.
Larry was a founding member of the Granbury Fly Wheelers and was instrumental in the restoration of the Historical Light Plant in Granbury. He also founded the Church of Christ Food Pantry and continued to volunteer there until just before his death.
