Lauren Taylor Gillum was born on July 2, 1993 at Harris Southwest Hospital in Ft. Worth and was raised in Granbury, Texas.
Lauren has two beautiful boys Bryson, 5 and Brayden, 18 months who were the pinnacle of her short life.
Lauren was unapologetically her truest self, always. She lived her life to the fullest and always on HER terms. She never met a stranger, Lauren had the biggest heart anyone could have. She would literally give you the shirt off her back or any of her possessions including any money she had. And if she didn’t have it, she would never fail to find a way. There was never a stray cat or dog that didn’t go home with her before inevitably relocating them to her parent’s home. Like Minnie, the cat Lauren and Erica saved on Morgan Street in front of Pastafina after a Sunday lunch with the family (and still terrorizes the other cats in the home to this day).
Lauren was set to graduate from Granbury High School in 2011, but instead graduated early in 2010 so she could pursue her dreams of caregiving. No matter how many times she had to pick herself up by the bootstraps after life happened, nursing was still her vision and she was actively pursuing her degree.
It would be an understatement to say Lauren excelled in swimming. As a Seal Pup, from day one, Lauren was a natural. She made the State Finals every year even through high school and to this day she still has her name in the TAAF Record Books for the Backstroke.
Lauren was employed as a caretaker for several individuals and care centers, but would have graciously taken care of them for free. She loved the elderly, partially because of her relationships with her Great Grandparents, but mostly because of her kind spirit and enormous heart. Many times she found herself going back to the homes on her day off just to visit them and make sure they were being taken care of off her watch.
Lauren Loved to Cook and Thrived in the Kitchen. Cleaning up was NOT her forte, but her culinary skills were quite impressive, especially Banana Nut Bread. At Christmas, the bet was how many loaves Lauren would make this year.
Banana Nut Bread has always been a staple of the Gillum Family, But now it has an eternally special meaning.
There was never a time when Lauren wasn’t surrounded by all of her amazing friends. She loved deep and she loved LOUD. She made sure everyone that ever knew and loved her knew that she loved them MORE. Her love will surround us and comfort us for the rest of our lives. BET.
