Lee Roy Schultz was born February 16, 1949 to Henry Earl Schultz and his wife Bulah Luie Dozier in Merkel Texas. He was the youngest of seven brothers and sisters. He grew up on the family farm outside Merkel, helping his family farm the land and learning what he could about agriculture. After attending Merkel High School he was drafted into the United States Army where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and a Sharpshooter Rifle commendation.
After leaving the army he returned to Merkel to help his father on the farm. He was introduced to Debra Gail Hicks and shortly after they were married. This is when he began his long career in the petroleum and transportation industry where he held many different positions with several industry leaders throughout the years. He and his wife moved to Andrews Texas where their son Stephen Paul was born. Shortly after this they moved back to Merkel where Roy continued to help on the family farm and volunteer at the Merkel Fire Dept.
He later was married to Pamela June Habr and lived in Midland Texas where he worked for The Crude Company. They later moved to Mineola Texas where he continued to work in the petroleum industry for JM Petroleum. During this time he started what he called a “Hobby Ranch” where at one time he ran over three hundred head of cattle on over 400 acres. At the same time he started up an oilfield construction company with a partner. He and Pam later sold the cattle, land, and their share of the construction company and moved to Glenwood Springs Colorado where they started up a convenience store. He went back into the petroleum and transportation industry with Fattor Petroleum. He later quit to start his own trucking company but later returned to Fattor Petroleum to run their transportation division as well as starting a propane division
He later remarried for a final time to Cindy Pagdilao and moved back to east Texas where he helped raise their daughter Kellie Lee McDevitt and ended his long career in the petroleum industry at Mallory’s Propane.
Roy moved back to the Abilene area to be close to family and friends then later to Granbury to be close to his son.
He is survived by his son Stephen and his wife Kim, his daughter Kellie and her daughter Natalie Lynn Fulcher, his two sisters, Viola Hudson and Marie Goode as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
