Lee Roy Tidwell, 80, passed away on Friday; October 22, 2021, in Fort Worth. He was born November 3, 1940, in Tolar, Texas to James V. and Leona Smith Tidwell. Lee Roy attended Tolar, and Granbury public schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Crescent City College. Following his marriage to Sharon Bandy Tidwell he was a grocery store manager and sales representative for a national paper products company. This led to several out of state job opportunities in New Mexico and Washington. Upon returning to Texas, Lee Roy pursued his passion for building, and he built homes in Arlington, Fort Worth, and Mansfield over a 10-year period.
Lee Roy joined Everman ISD in the construction and maintenance department in 1986. He led the district through numerous renovations and the construction of new school buildings in his 17 years with the district. Lee Roy enjoyed serving others and his community and became a Mansfield City Council member. He also coached several youth sporting teams his children were involved with. Throughout his life, Lee Roy was very involved with his church through outreach, small group leadership and eldership. He could often be found driving the “Joy Bus” to and from church, or just talking to visitors and members alike. In retirement, Lee Roy could be found sharing coffee with friends and serving those at the Center of Hope on a regular basis. Lee Roy was a member of the Granbury Church of Christ, and a committed family man who took care of and loved his family dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon Tidwell; son, Vince Tidwell and wife Penny; daughter Melissa McClure and husband David; four grandsons, Austin Tidwell and wife Kerry, Eric Tidwell and wife Kalli, Lance McClure and Ty McClure; brother, Marvel Tidwell and a number of nieces and nephews.
